Celebrating Families! is a family substance abuse prevention program, provided by Renewal House, Inc., that is designed to help children affected by the substance use or abuse of a parent or other primary caregiver in their family (meaning that this family member has used or abused alcohol or other drugs, either presently, or in the past.)
There must be at least one child age 3 to 17 years old, and at least one adult (age 18 or older) who would participate in the program together each week, for 11 weeks. • We require that all participants abstain from using any mood-altering substances for at least 24 hours prior, and during, group time. • Children may not attend CF! groups without an enrolled adult attending with them. • CF! Groups close to new members after the 2nd group session during a cycle (no new enrollees or additional family members may join after the 2nd session completes) • We ask that our participants NOT use any tobacco products from the time that they arrive on site to the time they leave. Please note: Participating adults are NOT required to be a parent/legal guardian/primary caregiver to the participating child; participating adults can be family members, friends, mentors, foster parents, etc. If the participating adult is not the legal caregiver for the child(ren), a parent/legal guardian of the child must sign the required informed consent and enrollment paperwork for the child to participate. There is no maximum number of family members who can participate; the ENTIRE family can participate in this group. (the substance abuser is NOT required to participate in the program.)
