Disability Determination Services

Tennessee Disability Determination Services (DDS) is a section within the Division of Rehabilitation Services of the Tennessee Department of Human Services. DDS operates by agreement between the State of Tennessee and the Social Security Administration to process Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability claims. DDS receives applications for disability benefits from Social Security offices and completes medical adjudication on these claims. DDS requests medical records, confirms status with claimants and obtains consultative examinations when necessary. DDS returns the claims to SSA for payment or appeal action. DDS makes medical adjudications at both the initial and reconsideration levels of application.
