Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition that can happen to anyone, including teens, after they experience something very scary or upsetting. This could be a serious accident, natural disaster, or any event that makes them feel extremely unsafe or helpless. June is PTSD Awareness Month, by reading this article you can be informed on the topic and be able to look for the warning signs if they arise in a teen in your life.

What does PTSD look like in teens?

· Have nightmares or flashbacks about the event.

· Avoid places or things that remind them of the event.

· Feel very anxious, sad, or angry.

· Having trouble sleeping or concentrating.

How Can Parents and Loved Ones help?

1. Listen and be supportive: Let the teen now you are there for them. Listen to them without judgment. Show them you believe them and that their feelings matter.

2. Keep a Routine: Help your teen stick to a regular routine. Doig things like going to school and having fun activities can help them feel normal and safe.

3. Seek Professional Help: Encourage your teen to see a therapist. Therapist ca teach them ways to feel better.

4. Take care of yourself: Supporting a teen with PTSD can be hard. Make sure to take care of your own health too.

5. Learn About PTSD: Understanding PTSD can better help you support your teen. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) provides resources and information on how to help a teen going through PTSD.
