Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention Program

 
 
 

The program consists of two different curriculums based on the individual client needs. Both programs target youth who are at-risk for substance abuse and other risky behaviors. The Life Skills Training curriculum is 14 weeks long and covers topics on general social skills, drug resistance, and personal self-management. The Strengthening Families curriculum is 12 weeks long and focuses on the family unit, teaching positive communication, parenting skills, drug resistance and emotion regulation.

 

Eligibility Requirements

The Life Skills Training groups are for 3rd-10th graders who are at-risk, identified by poor school performance/truancy, children of substance abusing parents, juvenile offenders, socioeconomic status, or foster care children. Groups are offered in Knox and Blount Counties. The Strengthening Families groups are for 7-17 year olds and their parents who are identified as at-risk by the following: poor school performance/truancy, children of substance abusing parents, juvenile offenders, socioeconomic status, or foster care children. Groups are offered in Knox and Blount Counties.
