Explore the Outdoors with TWRA Family Events

The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA) helps take care and manage Tennessee’s fish, wildlife, and natural places. They also help families enjoy the outdoors safely through fun events all year long. From fishing days to hands-on learning events, TWRA gives kids and parents a chance to explore nature together.

TWRA hosts family-friendly events across the state, many of which are free or low-cost. These events are made for beginners, so families can try new activities like fishing, wildlife watching, and other outdoor skills without needing experience. It is a great way to spend time together while learning something new. You can find upcoming events by visiting the TWRA events home page.

A special day to put on your calendar is Free Fishing Day on June 6th, 2026. On this day, anyone can fish in Tennessee’s public waters without a license, making this a great opportunity for families to try fishing for the first time. Across the state, TWRA hosts about 40 to 50 events on that Saturday, with many of those events including free fishing instruction, equipment, and fun activities for kids and families.

Free fishing day is a simple and fun way to get outside and try something new together. Spending time outdoors can help families relax, build confidence, and create lasting memories.
