Did you know that, according to the National Institute of Health, nearly 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experiences a mental illness each year? That includes moms, dads, and caregivers who are often trying to balance work, family, and personal challenges. Stress, anxiety, and depression can build up, but help is available.
In Tennessee, adults can turn to Crisis Walk-In Centers, which are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. These centers are here to help you manage difficult feelings or mental health struggles before things get worse.
You don’t need an appointment, and you don’t need to wait until things feel out of control. Think of these centers like an emergency room, but for your mental health.
The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services offers these services to support all Tennesseans. Learn more here: https://www.tn.gov/behavioral-health/crisis/continuum.html
At a Crisis Walk-In Center, trained professionals will listen, provide a mental health assessment, and help you find ongoing care if needed. The support is free, and many visits last between 2 and 4 hours, depending on your needs.
Here are a few current walk-in center providers in Tennessee:
- Frontier Health – Johnson City
- Helen Ross McNabb Center – Knoxville & Morristown
- Volunteer Behavioral Health – Cookeville, Chattanooga, Murfreesboro
- Mental Health Cooperative – Nashville
- Pathways of Tennessee – Jackson
- Alliance Healthcare Services – Memphis
Why It Matters
The earlier adults get help, the easier it is to manage mental health and keep families strong. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, millions of parents experience mental health conditions, but many don’t seek help.
You are not alone, and you don’t have to go through tough times by yourself. Tennessee’s crisis centers are here when you need them.
