The Katie Beckett program helps Tennessee children with intellectual and developmental disabilities or serious medical needs. It is for children under 18 who do not qualify for Medicaid because their parents make too much money. This program helps families get support so their children can be cared for at home instead of in a hospital or nursing home.

Two Parts of the Program
The program has two parts: Part A and Part B
Part A
· Gives full Medicaid benefits for children who need a lot of care
· Families can also get up to $15,000 a year for extra support, like:
1. Help at home
2. Breaks for parents (called respite care)
3. Changes to the home to keep their child safe
Part B
· Is for children with medical needs who don't need as much care as Part A
· Families can get up to $10,000 a year for things like:
1. Therapy
2. Help paying for health insurance
3. In-home help or short-term caregiver breaks

Example of How It Can Help
A family with a child who uses a wheelchair might get help from the program to pay for physical therapy, add a ramp to their home, and get part-time nursing support. This allows the child to stay safe at home, go to school, and enjoy time with family, while parents get help meeting their child’s needs.
How to Apply
1. Go to TennCare Connect and make an account
2. Complete the online application form
3. A case manager from the Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging will contact you to learn about your child's needs.
Even if you don't think your child will qualify for Medicaid, you still must apply first. There may be a wait list if the program is full.
